I think there is a long list of new things which I have learned from this class. My whole perspective of viewing media has been changed after taking this class. And the most amazing thing is Pakistani media is alot different from American media. I found American media lot more complicated and interesting then Pakistani media by all means.
I learned lots of new terms used in media such as Green wash, pseudo events, stringers, Spyware (the scary term) etc. There were many discussions in the class which I did not know about and I searched for them after the discussion. I felt like before this class I was totally out of this world. =D
It was so intersting to know that people in this class knew most of the current events and all of them had different opinion about it. To look at each topic from different point of veiw developed an interest in me to think outside the box. I think a quater is a real short time to get to know so many interesting people with their different perspectives on media.
I Came to know about South Park, Paris Hilton, and the history of media from this class. I learned that media have both negative and positive effects on people, it is totally upto people how they take the message.
Last but not least the presentations were the best part of this class specially the Presentation on the censorship of interenet in Iran.
Yeah I agree media has both positive and negative effects, but unfortunately I think there are more negative. News is hardly news anymore, and they tend to focus on celebrities or what crime happened where. It doesn't require actually going out and looking for a story.
ReplyDeleteWait so you are from Pakistan and speak perfectly good English but you didn't know about Paris Hilton? lol You would expect anywhere in the world English reaches to know about her. Anyway, what was that site you talked about where you search your name and all the stuff on the internet comes up? Like zamya or something?
By the way I commented two other blogs of yours. You were so nice in that class and it's too bad it's all over. =(
It's gratifying that you learned SO MUCH in the class, even if some of it does not (in my opinion) reflect the very best of American culture.
